Hello guys! I finally manage to keep this blog of mine updated regularly. After the newest chart for November 29 – December 5 and the Community Service memories, now I’m gonna give you the hot one! Yeah! It’s the annual precious Jazz Festival hold by the Faculty of Economics of Universitas Indonesia, Jazz Goes to Campus which is the 33rd edition.
I actually bought 8 tickets for me myself and 7 friends of mine but Ami was being hospitalized (thank God she’s getting well already), Kemal was preparing for ACM/ICPC Asian Regional, and some others would face Foundations of Programming 2nd Quiz tomorrow. So, it was only me, Wija, Egi, and Tika at first.
We made it to the venue at FE UI Campus at 2 p.m. and then we visited some furnitures and handicraft booth stall. Since it was not the primetime of the festival yet, I personally didn’t expect to watch something good before the night comes. But I was surprised for sure due to Andre Harihandoyo & Sonic People’s performance on JGtC Lounge sang “Pokerface” in a semi-rock jazz aarrangement. That was really a blast!
At about 3 p.m., Dinda and Ulfah joined us . With the rain pouring down, we decided to had some kind of lunch (at 4 p.m. lol) and wasted the time with Tika’s soap bubbles pistol (what a childish, huh?)
Bored of playing with the soap bubbles, we went over to Mandiri Stage, where Margie Segers, Rien Djamain and Ermy Kulit were performing and well done, they are the divas of jazz, aren’t they?
The real show we’ve been waiting for was the night session. There will be The Groove reunion, Andien, Idang Rasjidi, Barry Likumahuwa Project and the closing performance by Maliq n d’Essentials. We managed to watch The Groove’s performance through th wide screen but we missed Endah & Rhesa’s who was dazzling according to a friend of mine. But it really was fine because it’d be definitely rare to watch The Groove again since they’re not together anymore. Rieka Roeslan is busy with her solo career, Yuke with Dewa 19, and the other members are busy with their own project. What I love the most from their performance was the moment of my favorite song, “KHAYALAN” which was seriously, burned the fire in me and convinced me to have all jazz all night long.
We then moved to the BCA Stage, where Idang Rasjidi and friends were performing on the stage with additional vocal by a talented classical singer, Sastrani. Then the MC appeared, gave some quizzes, chatting around, and people started to shouted “Andien! Andien! Andien” more and more since based on the guide book, Andien, the one I personally wanted to see the most, was supposed to perform on the stage by 8 p.m. It’s been 9 p.m. and it was like forever to wait there. While waiting for Andien, Harish & Ishal joined us and there we were, in the middle of the crowd, 6 meters from the stage (quoted from Tika).
It seemed like Andien was switched with Idang Rasjidi and since she wasn’t ready yet, the organizer decided to feed the audience “Indonesian Youth Regeneration” first. I honestly thought it was some kind of choir or orchestra, but in fact, it was a band of 6 young boys, and from its appearance, I knew it was going to be a big shock. And there, I was damn right. Their performance was so much out of my expectations. What a very nice pop-jazz arrangements of Justin Bieber’s Baby, Ne*Yo’s So Sick, and some others. And for their closing, they performed their upcoming first hit single which popped the realit in my head, “Oh my god, that man (the vocalist) is Albert, the runner-up of a kid talent show years ago)”. Maaaaan, he’s grown up and I gotta admit that his voice was real good. But the most shocking part was the time when I realized that the drummer, was Demas -_-, yeah, Demas Narawangsa, the junior drummer I often watched on YouTube™. Well, overall, this Indonesian Youth Regeneration is a promising talent and if they keep this amazing work up, I’m not hesitate to predict that they’re going to make a very bright career.
Ah! I almost forgot this one. So, Demas, before he left the stage, threw his drum sticks to the crowd and obviously, that was so out of my range. But there he was, with four more sets and he threw one to each area. And yes, I TOUCHED ONE! TOUCHED ONE! TOUCHED! buut it FELL OFF OF MY HAND -..- and the thief :p behind me STOLE it! Then Harish told me, “that’s an old friend of mine,” and I was like “Zzzzzzzz..Just let him have it!” L
IYR was really a good performer but people started to shout Andien’s name again and again. And yeah, she finally came up. She’s now grown-up, with long hair, and flirting eyes
. She sang my favorite, “Gemintang”, and of course, her hot new single, “Moving On”. Well, I have nothing more to write down for her but Thanks! Thanks for such a great show!
And yeeeaaah, it was 11.30 p.m. already and it really was the time everybody’s been waiting for, Maliq n d’Essentials. Harish and I made it to sneak in the middle of the crowd and we got quite convenient spot to watch right in front of the stage but the others didn’t. Trie Utami was giving her closing and she really was good. Her voice sounds just as dazzling as it’s always been. Didi SSS impressed everybody’s ther e with his mad saxophone and that’s all. It’s Maliq’s time but just as they were preparing, the MC took over the attention, giving quiz, chatting around and I was so sick of their voices. I’ve been moving over stage to stage and the MC everywhere was just as annoying as that ORANGE! -..-
At about 12 p.m., the light went off, and there, on the stage, Maliq n d’Essentials came up from the dark. The crowd was quite amazing for such a small concert. And I felt like a dumb there. Almost every single person around me sang along with them (and count Harish in) but I, I was in the silent mode most of the time except for “Terdiam” and “Coba Katakan”. Well, you know, I’m not really a fan of local music. I was but I am not. And don’t blame me, ‘cause it really sucks, you know, since those stupid bands took over the music industry. I don’t expose name but I bet you know what I’m referring to.
It was 1.30 a.m. and it means it’s Monday already, lol. We went home. Tika slept at Wija’s and I went home by myself. Got home at about 2 a.m., and that’s all, I ended Sunday already and now, I think I’m gonna put Monday to an end. Full Stop. See you next time soon!
